FNTI Media student wins OFNSC award

Annette Francis, a third-year learner in FNTI's Aboriginal Media Program, won the first ever communications student award from the Ontario First Nations Services Corp.

Francis, from Alderville First Nation, was awarded $1,000 at a banquet in Niagara Falls, Ont. in October. She and her husband were guests at the OFNSC's seventh annual technical conference and trade show at the Sheraton Falls View Hotel.

OFNSC, which began in 1995, provides technical and advisory services to all First Nations in Ontario. Its mission statement includes "fostering technical self-reliance of our people."

OFNSC covers areas such as architecture, capital project planning and development, and housing. At present OFNSC is involved in projects in 134 First Nations in Ontario, valued at over $200 million annually.
