Myrna Stonefish describes her experiences with the clash of modern academic systems vs traditional Native knowledge and values

Myrna Stonefish enrolled at Trent University at the age of 48. Stonefish graduated, at the age of 52 with a BA, but she says that she faced many unexpected obstacles during her four years in university.

Stonefish says that being a single mom, raising a young boy presented challenges, but studying and "playing the game" were worth the effort.


Stonefish says the struggles she faced were different than what a youth would have to face. She found that knowing what she experienced in life and the theoretical analogy in a university setting were sometimes conflicting…

Because of health problems, Stonefish is currently on disability. She hopes to find part-time employment in the mental health field.
