Bachelor of Social Work

Description/Learning Approaches

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program is an advanced standing university degree program offered in partnership with Ryerson University. The program is delivered off-campus in an area identified as being central for participants and is designed for employed adults.

The program requires participation in one 78-hour or two 39-hour courses per term/semester with three terms beginning January, May and September. This corresponds to a three-year commitment for registered learners. The class schedule will vary from course to course depending on faculty and participant availability. One should be prepared to work with some arrangement of six, week-long in-class sessions in each school year. The exception is the first year when seven, week-long sessions are presented to allow the prerequisite courses to be delivered along with the CVSW 015 Foundations of Social Work course. This means that three weeks will be scheduled for the Spring (May) session (only) in the first year.

In addition, students are expected to attend a one day orientation session held at Ryerson University in the fall semester of the first year.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

Individuals with a Social Service Worker Diploma from a Canadian College of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) or equivalent designation, holders of a baccalaureate degree in the humanities or social sciences (B average preferred) and at least two years paid experience in the Social Service field are eligible to apply.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Upon admission to the program, learners are advised that their conduct is governed by the Canadian Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics.
